The desired Controlled Atmosphere is achieved by drawing down the oxygen content of storage facilities through the monitored injection of nitrogen. This dramatically extends the "shelf life" and marketing period of perishable commodities. This is the essence of Controlled Atmosphere Storage. The method is used worldwide on many commodities including bananas, kiwis, pomegranates, etc. In the Pacific Northwest CA storage has been successfully applied to apple and berry crops. Our warehouse customers may access the benefits of CA through a number of channels. These are:
- Nitrogen Generators featuring MG Generon Membranes - Pacific CA Systems, Inc. designs and assembles nitrogen generators. These are installed to your specifications and scaled to ensure your needs are addressed. Compressed air passes through a bundle of hollow membrane fibers. The relatively "fast" gases present in the air -- oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor -- diffuse through the semi-permeable membrane surface. The high density of the fiber bundle provides a vast membrane surface area for rapid permeation of the faster gases, leaving behind a high purity nitrogen product stream.
- Nitrogen Delivery - Scheduled and Emergency - Some warehouses prefer to store and receive their nitrogen in bulk. We can provide and install storage tanks on-site for short-term or long-term use. Our fleet of cryogenic transports ensures you have a constant supply.
- Nitrogen "Pulldown" Service - As an alternative to the above, Pacific CA Systems, Inc. pioneered the method of managing the entire pulldown process for you. Using our trailer-mounted workstations, our personnel inject nitrogen in a monitored process to "Pulldown" the oxygen content of your storage facility to your desired percentage.
